Process presentation
Since 2017, Black Light has implemented experiential training seminars for retail employees and customer service staff focusing on the interaction with blind and visually impaired customers. The seminars are conducted by visually impaired trainers and provide practical guidance on accessible communication, customer approach techniques, product presentation, assistance during product selection, and payment procedures.
The training sessions focus particularly on:
- approaching and assisting blind customers,
- accessible product presentation and communication,
- customer service and checkout procedures,
- experiential role playing exercises between staff and blind customers,
- understanding customer experience through direct interaction.
Building on this experience, the organisation also developed online educational webinars and experiential workshops focusing on accessibility and inclusion in professional environments. The webinar “Meeting my blind client” introduces participants to blind customer experience, accessible service design, and communication practices through interactive online sessions aimed at business executives, retail employees, and customer service teams.
In parallel, Black Light delivers online experiential corporate workshops combining accessibility awareness with team building, emotional intelligence, and inclusive workplace culture. These workshops utilise non formal and experiential learning methodologies to strengthen:
- collaboration and communication,
- empathy and emotional intelligence,
- interaction between people with and without disabilities,
- inclusive organisational culture,
- leadership and teamwork skills.
Beyond professional training, Black Light has also expanded its activities into inclusive education and accessibility awareness in schools. The organisation develops educational material, awareness activities, and accessibility resources focusing on disability inclusion, differentiated learning, and accessible educational environments.
One of its recent initiatives is the development of a Guide for the Inclusion of Children with Disabilities in Schools, which presents practical approaches for:
- inclusive education,
- differentiated teaching methods,
- assistive technologies,
- accessibility in school environments,
- experiential learning and disability awareness,
- social inclusion practices in educational settings.
The guide approaches inclusion not as the adaptation of children to existing systems, but as the transformation of educational environments so that all children can participate equally in school life.
Involved partners
Black Light collaborates with businesses, schools, educational institutions, accessibility experts, community organisations, and actors working on disability inclusion and accessible design. Its activities involve trainers and facilitators with disabilities and build connections between educational, professional, and community environments around accessibility and inclusion practices.
The initiative is supported through European funding mechanisms including the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), ESF/ESF+, and ERDF.
Impact
Black Light contributes to strengthening accessibility and inclusion awareness across educational, professional, and community environments in Greece. Through experiential learning methodologies, the organisation supports businesses and institutions in understanding accessibility not only as a technical requirement, but as an essential component of equal participation and social inclusion.
Its activities help reduce stereotypes surrounding disability by creating direct interaction between participants and trainers with disabilities, strengthening empathy, communication, and inclusive organisational culture. At the same time, the organisation promotes the active participation of blind professionals as trainers, facilitators, and accessibility experts, contributing to visibility, representation, and employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
Key areas of impact include:
- accessibility awareness and disability inclusion,
- inclusive customer service practices,
- experiential accessibility training methodologies,
- employment opportunities for people with disabilities,
- inclusive education and school accessibility,
- community awareness and participation.
Next steps
The organisation seeks to further expand partnerships with organisations active in accessibility, disability rights, inclusive education, community development, and accessible service design. Future activities focus on: • expanding experiential learning programmes, • strengthening accessibility consulting services, • developing new educational resources, • promoting inclusive workplace practices, • supporting accessible communication and customer experience initiatives, • strengthening participation and equal access for people with disabilities.
