“Factors That Hinder or Promote the Sustainability of Social Initiatives”

The speaker was Vasilis Bellis, former General Director of ANKA – Development Agency of Karditsa and Secretary of the Supervisory Board of the People’s University of Social and Solidarity Economy, “UnivSSE Coop”.

He discussed social initiatives and analysed the factors affecting their sustainability, initially grouping them into three categories:

External factors, such as the constitutional and institutional framework, legislation, public policies, access to finance and the existence of a support ecosystem; Internal factors, such as democratic governance, experience and expertise, capital adequacy, and a shared vision and mission; Interaction factors, such as partnerships, participation in networks, citizen engagement and building trust with the local community.

He then examined these factors in greater detail, providing participants with a comprehensive overview of the conditions that influence the sustainability of social initiatives.
