A programme by the People’s University of Social and Solidarity Economy, broadcast on Tuesday, 2 February 2016 on FM 100.6, Thessaloniki’s municipal volunteer radio station, on the topic:
“Alternative Initiatives and Social Movements in Times of Crisis”
The programme discussed the relationship between crisis and the emergence and proliferation of alternative initiatives. It considered whether the failure of the prevailing system is, in itself, enough to lead people to seek alternatives; the role of social movements in the development of alternative initiatives internationally, historically and in crisis-era Greece; and the role the state has played, or could play, in supporting their development and evolution.
Guest: Dr Karolos-Iosif Kavoulakos, Lecturer at the Department of Political Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specialising in “New Social Movements”
Coordination and presentation: Dr Kostas Nikolaou and Dr Aspa Papafilippou
