A programme by the People’s University of Social and Solidarity Economy, broadcast on Tuesday, 23 May 2017 on FM 100.6, Thessaloniki’s municipal volunteer radio station, on the topic:
“Education for the Environment and the Social and Solidarity Economy”
The programme explored whether education and knowledge-sharing within collectives and civil society organisations can take place in the same way as in the Greek school system. It discussed how Environmental Education has reconnected education with progressive pedagogy, placing the learner at the centre of the educational process, and examined the methods used and the objectives pursued.
The discussion also considered the influence of progressive educators of the early twentieth century, including Dewey, Kerschensteiner and the concept of work schools, Freinet, Montessori, as well as Greek progressive educators such as Delmouzos and Kountouras. It further examined the extent to which the work of educators such as Paulo Freire and A. S. Neill can provide a pedagogical basis for cooperative and self-managed initiatives, as well as for environmental movements.
Guest: Giorgos Blionis, PhD in Biology and member of ecological and cooperative initiatives
Coordination and presentation: Dr Kostas Nikolaou and Dr Aspa Papafilippou
Sound engineering and multimedia: Giannos-Angelos Nikolaou
